McCarron's overtime winner leads Redmen to Highland region championship

COXHEATH, N.S. — 

Andrew McCarron scored the overtime winner to power the Riverview Redmen to a 2-1 victory over the Glace Bay Panthers in Game 3 of the Highland region Division 1 high school hockey league championship at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre on Tuesday.

With the win, the Redmen take the best-of-three league final 3-0 and win their second consecutive league title.

Brady MacLean also found the back of the net in regulation time for the Redmen, who will play in the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation provincial championship next month, hosted by Glace Bay.

David Beaton had the lone goal for the Panthers.

Michael MacMullen made 31 saves for Riverview. Nick Bigley turned aside 27 of 29 shots for Glace Bay.

Riverview opens high school hockey final with win over Glace Bay

SYDNEY, N.S. — 

SYDNEY, N.S. – Brady MacLean scored three times to lead the Riverview Redmen to a 4-1 win over the Glace Bay Panthers in Cape Breton High School Hockey League championship action at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre on Friday.

Dylan MacDonald also found the back of the net for the Redmen, who lead the best-of-five series with the Panthers 1-0.

Connor MacIntyre had the lone goal for Glace Bay in the contest.

Michael MacMullen made 21 saves in the win for Riverview. Nick Bigley turned aside 25 of 29 shots in the loss for Glace Bay.

The date for Game 2 of the series was not confirmed as press time.

Redmen defeat Wildcats to take series lead

COXHEATH, N.S. — 

Kinnon Williams fired home three goals to lead the Riverview Redmen past the Sydney Academy Wildcats in Game 1 of the best-of-three Cape Breton High School Hockey League semifinals at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre on Friday.

Chase Sampson, Jared Hunt, Blake Cox and Andrew McCarron also scored goals for the Redmen.

Ricky MacKenzie, Tytan Donovan and Justin Thistle answered with goals for the Wildcats.

Ryan Tanner and Michael MacMullen shared time in goal for Riverview. Hunter Chenhall was tagged with the loss for Sydney Academy, stopping 34 of 41 shots.

Game 2 of the series will take place on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.

Walker scores winner in last minute as Marauders beat Panthers

NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. — 

Dovi Walker scored the game-winner with 44 seconds to play in regulation time as the Memorial Marauders downed the Glace Bay Panthers 4-3 in Game 2 of their Cape Breton High School Hockey League playoff series at the Emera Centre Northside on Thursday.

Mackenzie Erickson scored twice and Ian Jenkins added a single marker for the Marauders, who tied the series 1-1.

Xavier Johnson netted a pair of goals for the Panthers while David Beaton also buried a goal for the visitors.

Spencer Shebib made 20 saves in the win. Colton Boutilier turned aside 17 of 21 shots in the loss.

The third and deciding game will take place on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Canada Games Complex in Sydney.

Redmen, Wildcats game to be rescheduled

MEMBERTOU, N.S. — 

The Cape Breton High School Hockey League playoff game, scheduled for Wednesday at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre, between the Sydney Academy Wildcats and Riverview Redmen has been rescheduled.

The game will now be played on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Membertou venue.

The contest was cancelled because of weather conditions and the arena being closed Wednesday evening.

Game 1 of the best-of-three series will now be held on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath.

Wildcats host Redmen in hockey playoffs

SYDNEY, N.S. — 

The Sydney Academy Wildcats will host the Riverview Redmen in Game 1 of their Cape Breton High School Hockey League first round playoff series today.

Game time is 7 p.m. at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.

The Redmen, who finished first overall in the four-team league, lost only one game in the regular season — to the Glace Bay Panthers. As for the Wildcats, the team went 0-18-0-0 in the regular season.
