Redmen, Rebels pick up high school hockey wins

SYDNEY – The Riverview Redmen and Inverness/Baddeck Rebels both picked up high school hockey wins on Friday.

In Cape Breton High School Hockey League action at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath, the Redmen downed the Sydney Academy Wildcats 8-1.

Blake Cox and Andrew McCarron each scored a pair of goals for Riverview while Kinnon Williams, Andrew McCarron, Bryden Johnston and Brandon Murphy also added goals for the Redmen (10-0-0-0).

Justin Thistle had the lone goal for the Wildcats (0-10-0-0).

Ryan Tanner made 13 saves before being replaced by Riley Davis, who was called up by the Redmen for Friday’s game, stopping all seven shots he faced in his 20 minutes of relief. Tanner picked up the win.

Hunter Chenhall stopped 35 of 43 shots in the loss for Sydney Academy.

In Cape Breton West High School Hockey League action at the Dr. Bernie MacLean Recreation Centre in Inverness, the Inverness/Baddeck Rebels edged the Dalbrae Dragons 2-1.

Will Basker and Michael Cameron scored goals for the Rebels (4-2-0-0).

Ben Van Zutphen had the lone goal for the Dragons (4-4-0-0).

Hunter Forance picked up the win in goal. Boyd MacIntyre shouldered the loss. Statistics were not available at press time.

High school hockey league action continues on Sunday when the Glace Bay Panthers host the Redmen at 7 p.m. at the Canada Games Complex on the Cape Breton University campus.

Panthers pick up road win over Marauders

NORTH SYDNEY – Colin Rosta had a four-point performance, which included two goals, to lead the Glace Bay Panthers past the Memorial Marauders 8-1 in Cape Breton High School Hockey League action at the Emera Centre Northside on Thursday.

Liam Burke fired home a pair of goals for the Panthers, while Darcy O’Brien, Austin Parsons, Connor MacIntyre and Dylan Macdonald added single markers for Glace Bay (9-1-1-0).

Kent Keagan had the lone goal for the Marauders (3-8-2-0-).

Colten Boutilier made 21 saves in the win for Glace Bay. Spencer Shebib shouldered the loss for Memorial, turning aside 28 of 36 shots in the loss.

High school hockey action resumes on Friday with the Riverview Redmen hosting the Sydney Academy Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. at the Cape Breton County Recreation Complex in Coxheath.

Redmen host Wildcats, Rebels face Dragons in high school hockey action

SYDNEY – Two games are scheduled in high school hockey league action on Friday.

In Cape Breton High School Hockey League action, the Riverview Redmen will host the Sydney Academy Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath.

In Cape Breton West High School Hockey League action, the Inverness/Baddeck Rebels will face the Dalbrae Dragons at 7:30 p.m. at the Dr. Bernie MacLean Recreation Centre in Inverness.

Redmen alumni game in support of ServiCom employees set for today

SYDNEY, N.S. — The Riverview Redmen hockey program will hold a chairty alumni game on Thursday in support of SeriCom employees at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath.
The game, to be known as The Redmen Alumni Cup, will feature Riverview alumni facing the current Redmen squad, with the winner taking home bragging rights. 
Game time is set for 7 p.m. Admission is by donation at the door.

Panthers roll Wildcats in high school hockey action

SYDNEY, N.S. — Dylan MacDonald, Liam Burke and Colin Rosta each found the back of the net twice to lead the Glace Bay Panthers past the Sydney Academy Wildcats 11-3 in Cape Breton High School Hockey League action at the Canada Games Complex on Sunday.
Connor MacIntyre, Jarrett Hicks, Ty Clarke, Alec Campbell and Xavier Johnson also netted goals for the Panthers (8-1-1-0). 
Dylan Williams scored twice for Sydney Academy, while Nick Pastuck added a single marker for the Wildcats (0-9-0-0).
Colten Boutilier picked up the win in goal for Glace Bay. Hunter Chenhall suffered the loss for Sydney Academy.

Panthers to host Wildcats in high school hockey action Sunday

SYDNEY — The Glace Bay Panthers will take to the ice on Sunday when they host the Sydney Academy Wildcats in Cape Breton High School Hockey League action.

Glace Bay enters the game with a 7-1-1-0 record, while Sydney Academy has yet to pick up a win in league play, entering the contest with a 0-8-0-0 record.

Game time is 7 p.m. at the Canada Games Complex on the Cape Breton University campus.
