NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. – The Memorial Marauders are off to a 2-0 start to kick off the Cape Breton High School Hockey League.
Memorial edged the Sydney Academy Wildcats 3-2 in their home opener on Thursday night at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydney.
Hudson McGean was the hero for the Marauders, scoring with 17 seconds to play in the final stanza to lift the club to the victory. Davis MacInnis and Jesse Ross also netted goals for Memorial.
Anthony Melski and Jackson Gushue buried the goals for the Wildcats (0-2-0-0).
Memorial’s Jack MacPhee made 15 saves. Sydney Academy’s Dylan Lesnick stopped 39 of 42 shots.
Earlier in the week, Memorial downed Sydney Academy 6-1 at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre to open the season.
High school hockey league action continues on Sunday with the Glace Bay Panthers hosting the Riverview Ravens in their home opener at 7 p.m. at Miners Forum in Glace Bay.
