First time since 2016

NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. —

For the first time since 2016, the Glace Bay Panthers are the Highland Region Division 1 high school hockey champions.

The Panthers captured the title with a 4-0 victory over the Memorial Marauders in Game 2 of the best-of-three Cape Breton High School Hockey League final series at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydney on Thursday.

Glace Bay wins the series 2-0. The team also beat Memorial 8-1 at Miners Forum in Glace Bay on Sunday.

Tyler Cormier scored twice, while Jarrett Hicks and Logan Snow added single markers for the Panthers. All four goals came on the power play.

Glace Bay’s Darian MacInnis stopped all 23 shots he faced for his second win of the series. Memorial’s Andrew Marsh turned aside 29 of 33 shots.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will won't be a Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation provincial championship tournament this season.
